Legend has it that way back in ancient China. Black rice was so rare that it was reserved only for emperors & noblemen. These days however. Black Rice is slowly gaining a foothold in the consciousness of the world’s consumers. Hailed as a “superfood” because of more health benefits it has compared to similar food items, it is known to contain a high amount of a type of antioxidant called anthocyanin, which is a purple pigment found in grapes, blueberries, and the much talked abut acai berry from South America. Anthocyanins are known to help support the immune system and promote healthy cell growth. Research also showed that these compounds have potential anti-inflammatory effects, and a growing body of evedence is slowly uncovering more and more possible benefits out of anthocyanins. Among the four, however, the highest concentration of anthocyanins is found in Black Rice, with a spoonful of black rice containing more of it than a spoonful of blueberries. and unlike blueberries, black rice contains less sugar, and more Vitamin E and fiber.
